FoCo Fondo is also a way to give back, to level the playing field, and incorporate everyone into the sport we love
Our Initiatives

Safe Routes to School
By starting with children and the trip to school, communities become safe places for everyone to walk and bike. By creating safe places for everyone, communities take a major step towards meeting the national goal of ending traffic deaths on roads. At FoCo Fondo we couldn’t agree more with Safe Routes to School’s mission and we put our money where our mouth is by donating a percentage of proceeds to Safe Routes to School every year. These funds are used primarily for after school bike clubs in the most needed areas of our community.

BIPOC Scholarships
In 2021 FoCo Fondo gave away free entries for BIPOC scholarships in an effort to increase diversity at our event. An entry fee can be great but for people traveling for cycling events, housing is usually more expensive. With the help of New Belgium brewing and friends we also provided the housing for the BIPOC scholarship recipients to come to enjoy Fort Collins and partake in FoCo Fondo.
The 2022 program expands to 20 entries and is open until Jan 16, 2022. Apply here.

Non Binary/ Gender Initiatives
The short and sweet of it is, everyone deserves to have access to sport. If someone doesn’t fit into a gender box provided at registration then the odds that person signing up are low, the odds of that individual feeling like they have a place to do their sport is low. We want everyone to feel like there’s space for them at FoCo Fondo, developing new categories and prizes and making every group feel welcome is the least we can do. If you’re looking to compete in a category but not sure which one, we like to reference the IOC gender equality and fairness framework. New scholarship program closes 6/17/21.

Preparation and Community
Look, FoCo Fondo is an adventure ride. It’s not going to be easy. We would be doing you a disservice if we didn’t try to help you along the way to prepare for the event itself. FoCo Fondo offers free training rides every month from March to June. Here, people can try some of the FoCo Fondo roads (not many) and ask questions about training, equipment choice, pacing, nutrition, everything. It’s also just a fun ride. There’s even a Women’s Celebration Ride. Head to the Riders’ Corner of the website for details on those events.
