Our Hitch A Ride program is as straightforward as it’s motto: For climate, community, and cost sharing. By re-thinking our travel to events, we can hit these three C’s and all be better for it in more ways than one.
A huge shoutout to Simple Steps, Better Air for their financial support of this program! It wouldn’t be possible without them, so give them a high five next time you see them (or a virtual one on the internet!). Riders who participate in the program in any of these three ways can grab a Hitch a Ride air freshener at registration and enter themselves to win prizes! The drawing will take place on Sunday, July 20th, at awards at the main stage at 4pm. You must be present to win any large prizes.
There are three parts to this program. Choose your incentive:
It’s Cool to Pool, Carpool
Get those playlists ready, start them all with “Hitch-a-Ride” by Boston and turn it up to eleven…..or the highest that radio volume goes. How many seats are in your vehicle? That’s how many seats we want butts in on the way to FoCo Fondo from wherever you’re coming from.
Just like how bikes are more fun with more people, filling more than one seat in your vehicle on the way to FoCo Fondo is the fun way to get there. If fun isn’t enough of a reason for you to fill the car seats with new or old friends, hopefully these incentives will change your mind.
Connect: If you don’t already have a full road trip crew, connect with other riders from your region who are heading to FoCo Fondo via our private Hitch a Ride Facebook Group. You must be registered for FoCo Fondo to join. Note: You are responsible for vetting your carpool friends and safe travel.
Win Prizes: There will be a cute little voter box at registration where you can submit your participation in the program. Names will be drawn at random at the awards ceremony on Sunday, July 20th, at 4pm at the Main Stage.
Visit Fort Collins by Airport Shuttle
If you are flying in to FoCo Fondo, we encourage you to skip the rental car and enjoy our easy-to-bike-around city. We have world class infrastructure as well as a public Spin Bike and Scooter options, should you need. There are plenty of hotel and rental options that put you close to the action so you can move more slowly and really soak up everything Fort Collins has to offer.
Sign up to shuttle: WE will have rider pricing on Landline airport shuttle services soon. Landline has a pricing system where the first ticket is full priced, but every ticket thereafter is $15 (+ you can get that 10% off). Kids 12 and under are FREE. Get the full details on the FoCo Fondo travel page.
Choose your stay within bikeable distance to the start: Fort Collins is a popular tourist destination in the summer, so we recommend picking up your hotel or housing early for the best price. Give good consideration for proximity to New Belgium, where our start/finish is located. Other considerations are proximity to a bike shop, restaurants, and grocery. We think near Old Town is purrrrfect.
It’s Fine to Ride
Ugh, who wants to deal with parking anyways?! Ride to the start of FoCo Fondo gives you that sweet, sweet independence.
Just ride there: Ride to the start of FoCo Fondo and we’ll happily label your backpack with your number and hold your bag while you ride (be sure to leave the valuables at home). We’ll have some changing tents available too for ya! If you think you will be out after sunset (approx 8:20pm), don’t forget to pack some lights with you.
Bag drop will be held at registration starting at 5am event day. Please bring a closeable or zippered bag. We’ll tag it with your race number and you will need your ID or race number to get it at the end of the day. Yes, your friend or family member can get your bag, but they will need to physically have your ID or race number.
Riders participating in this program will still need to enter their name into the drawing for prizes. This is also located at registration throughout the weekend.
